Key Fob
Recently, I accidently laundered my car’s key fob. Needless to say, it did not survive the experience. After talking with the dealer, I discovered that replacing the fob would cost over $300. I checked a battery story and they wanted approximately $150 to get the fob, move my key over, and program it. I decided to look for a less expensive alternative.
As a result, I turned to my favorite department store, E-Bay. Doing a search for the make and model of my car and locating the correct fob, I ordered two. One was to replace the one I washed, and the second one was to act as a spare for when I did something stupid again. I paid about $15 for the two fobs, which were after market replacements. I then went to a locksmith who charged me $30 each to cut the keys. My particular keys were the kind that fold up into the fob and are more specialized than keys that hang on a ring. So, for a total of $75, I replaced two fobs instead of paying $300 for one.
Okay, so then I needed to program the fob to work with my vehicle. I then went on to YouTube to locate a video that showed how to program the fob. I completed all the steps and low and behold, it worked! You have to love the internet when it comes to saving money. The moral of this story is to check alternatives to see if there are viable solutions to saving money.
Happy Halloween!!!
