Today, I digress from my normal financial post to one of my hobbies, fantasy football.  I love playing and am in two leagues this season.  Fantasy football has become a passion of mine every Fall.  Tonight, is the night of my first fantasy draft.  I’m looking forward to it.

I’ve been in this particular league for well over 10 years and last year was the first time I ever won our league.  It is a twelve team league, and winning is not easy to do based on all the competition.  However, I managed to pull it off.  this particular league has a fee and I save up each month to participate.  Last season, I ended up way ahead so it cost me nothing.  But if you’re ever interested, there are leagues that are free, so it costs nothing to play.  the second league I’m in is one of those.  It’s just for fun.

For me, as I mentioned, it’s a hobby.  For many, it’s a lot more than that.  I do enjoy watching the games more with my laptop in front of me, showing the points my players are earning.  If you’ve never played, I get it.  It’s a sport that’s not for everyone..  But I’ve always loved the game so playing fantasy football is simply an enhancement for me.

What is the moral of today’s story?

Despite the fact that I love all this money stuff, I also love other things.  Fantasy football happens to be one of those obsessions.  It proves you can still enjoy your favorite things at low to no cost.   Even without paying for cable, I am able to see most of the games on tv.  I get them off my antenna for free!
