Dental Discount Plans

Dental Discount Plan imageI have lousy teeth and I spend a lot of time at the dentist.  Yesterday, was one of those days which is why I didn’t post anything.  And, I don’t have dental insurance. What I do have is a dental discount plan instead.

A dental discount plan is just like it sounds.  It gives you discounts on dental procedures.  And unlike dental insurance, it has not yearly maximum on how much you can spend in a year.  Most dental insurance plans limit you to $1,500 a year.  As you probably know, you can use that amount up in a heartbeat.  Additionally, dental discount plans are usually much less expensive than dental insurance.   I had dental insurance with my last employer and found the coverage very restrictive for someone with terrible teeth.

I have had a dental discount plan for the last eight years.  I’ve had bridges and implants put in, gingivectomies, cleanings, x-rays, and all kinds of other procedures completed.  (Told you I had bad teeth.)  I’ve gotten discounts off the normal rate which saved me money.  I was paying over $400/year for my dental insurance eight years ago.  Now, I pay $250 for two years of dental discounts.

Moral of the story:

If you don’t have employer dental insurance plans, think about looking into dental discount plans.  They’re less expensive, more flexible, and don’t require you to submit claims.  Do a search at Dental Discount Plans (I am not affiliated with them) to locate providers that sell them.  Search your area first.  Research the various plans that are available.  See if your dentist supports the plan you’re interested in.  If not, you may need to switch dentists or ask yours to support the plan you want.  Or, your dentist might have a plan of their own, so ask.
