What Is Financial Freedom?

financial freedom imageWhat is financial freedom? You’ve heard the term but what does it mean? I can tell you that it’s not something that hits you with a bang. There is no confetti falling from the sky when you reach it. For most, it just happens and when it does, you know something is different.

Financial freedom feels like a breath of fresh air. When you look at your bank account, you’re not terrified. When a bill comes in, you don’t panic or get stressed because you know the money is there to pay it. If you incur an unexpected expense, it’s an inconvenience, not a disaster. You’ve figured out how to manage your money efficiently and when life happens, it’s no longer an emergency. AND, every dime you bring in is basically yours. Yes, you have expenses, but they’re budgeted for and you’re not throwing money away on debts or interest to someone else.

You have more choices in your financial life. Changing jobs, trying something different, or working less hours are doable. You’re not trapped by your job. Your mental attitude will also change. There’s no longer a dread feeling about getting behind on bills, what if an emergency happens, or what if I lose my job? You’ll definitely sleep better at night. You can plan for your future. Short-term existence is no longer an issue. You become more self-assured and have clarity in your life.

Spending, saving, and goals are now in alignment in your life. They are habits that echo your new found values instead of impulsive reactions. Your financial decisions are intentional and with your budget, you know exactly where every penny is going. It’s your decision how your money is allocated. You’re not throwing funds away on debt and interest anymore. And, you have stopped being irresponsible with your money.

Moral of the story:

Financial freedom feels right. It’s tranquil, constant, and foreseeable. Your cash doesn’t govern every choice. It’s not a particular dollar amount. It’s the place where your behaviors, means, and attitudes support your lifestyle. When money supports you and stops controlling your life, that’s when you feel it. The day I became financially free, I felt like I had come out of a very long dark tunnel. Strive to make this happen.
